You signed up for your first class at a kick boxing gym. Whether looking for a severe calorie burn, to improve strength, or to mix things up, you have made a great choice. HIIT Boxing Club goes above and beyond in HIIT cardio boxing with energy and training benefits. Now it’s day one!
With any high-intensity workout, you’ll be grateful that you prepared in a small way! This guide will cover everything you should know before your first fitness kickboxing class, from what to wear and what will happen to how to take full advantage of your practice.
What Is HIIT Cardio Boxing?
You should discover cardio boxing before the laces are tied on your shoes. HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training, a training style that alternates between short periods of maximum intensity and active recovery. Combined with boxing, it’s a fantastic combination of a cardio workout and learning pace, power, and precision.
The HIIT Boxing Club created classes to burn fat and build endurance to develop lean muscle while still learning fundamental boxing skills; you will do heavy bag work, pad work, shadow boxing, and core movements at a pace that does not let your heart rate slow down. You can expect to have fun!
Below are the Steps to prepare for Your First Day at the kick Boxing Gym
1: Dress Like You Mean It
What you wear is a significant factor in your performance. Wear breathable, moisture-wicking material that is flexible with free movement. A good list of things to have includes:
- Moisture-wicking shirt or tank top
- Flexible fitted shorts or active leggings
- Supportive sports bra (for women)
- A good quality, lightweight boxing shoe or cross-trainer
2: Gear Up for Success
Many kick boxing fitness classes offer the basic equipment you will use in class, but owning your own equipment ensures the proper fit and cleanliness. Here is a list of what you will need at some point:
- Boxing gloves: We recommend starting with 12 or 14-ounce gloves for beginners.
- Hand wraps: These are important for wrist protection and joint support.
- Water bottle and Towel: Trust Us, You’re Gonna Need Both!
At HIIT Boxing Club, we provide rental gloves for new members, but most regular members invest in their own set of gloves. They are more comfortable, and it’s all part of becoming a serious boxer!
3: Hydrate and Fuel the Right Way
Staying hydrated is essential before and after a cardio boxing workout. You want to drink water from the start of your day and up until your class, not just before you begin. You should also eat a light, balanced meal about 90 minutes before the class for nutritional purposes. Good pre-workout snacks include:
- A banana with almond adulation
- Oats with a scoop of protein, greasepaint
- Greek yogurt with fruit
Avoid heavy reflections or anything too sticky; you want energy, not a bellyache.
4: Show Up Early and Introduce Yourself
Make sure to arrive at least 15-20 minutes early for your first class to allow time to:
- Meet the coach and advise them that you are a new student.
- Get acquainted with the facility.
- Properly wrap your hands.
- Warm up to your working heart rate with some light cardio or dynamic stretches before class.
At HIIT Boxing Club, we diligently create a welcoming and supportive environment. There is no intimidation, egos, or pressure here, only sweat and success. If you introduce yourself to the coach, the coach can give you instructions on the fundamentals in class and correct your form if needed.
5: Understand the Flow of Kick Boxing Fitness Classes
Every kick boxing gym has its way of doing things, but here’s a generalized structure of a kickboxing fitness class at HIIT Boxing Club:
Warm-Up: The warm-up would generally consist of jumping rope, high knees, dynamic stretches, and shadowboxing to elevate heart rate.
Technique Drills: In this portion of the class, you will learn or review the basics of kickboxing, which are punches (i.e., jab, cross, hook, uppercut), and some basics of footwork.
HIIT Rounds on the Bag or Pad Drills: This would be the longest portion of the lesson. The HIIT Rounds are much more intense (faster-paced) and have ‘rest’ as we progress through rounds. This could mean striking a heavy bag or performing pad drills with a partner.
Core Burnout: This section of the class is what it is, movements targeting the midsection/core. While it may not treat you to a surprise move in a HIIT class style, it can be a combination of planks, sit-ups, Russian twists, and/or leg raises.
Cooldown and Stretch: This is just as important as the warm-up. The cooldown section is for recovery and mobility—it enhances the range of movement and helps reduce the chances of injuries.
6: Manage Your Expectations
Your first session might be tough—and that’s okay. You may miss a combo, feel winded halfway through, or need to pause more than once. That’s normal. HIIT cardio boxing is intended to push you outside your comfort zone and can be scaled to your fitness level.
Permit yourself to be new. Every fighter starts somewhere. The more consistent you are, the more your endurance, coordination, and confidence will grow.
7: Commit to the Process
HIIT Boxing Club isn’t just a short-term fitness trend–it can be a lifestyle journey to develop your body, sharpen your mind, and show discipline. With classes tailored to everything from a kick boxing gym for recreational newcomers to championship fighters, you will never be bored and will always be able to develop.
Try a different approach with every class type, have fun with bag rounds, and grow your confidence in every punch, kick, and combo. Before you know it, your nervous anticipation will evolve into laser-like focus and intensity.
